My father grew up near Lvov, in what is now the Ukraine. His family suffered a great deal of loss in WW2 but in the UK he came to run 2 small businesses, marry, have children and live a long life.
My mother and grandmother were Welsh and were, very unusually, educated to degree level (my grandmother got a degree in Maths in 1893).
